Job Overview:
A law firm is currently seeking an Associate to join its Corporate practice in Renewable Energy Project Development & Finance. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge renewable energy projects across the country, including wind, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, and battery storage. Location:

  • Denver, CO

Duties:

  • Work directly with clients in the renewable energy sector on projects nationwide.
  • Provide legal guidance on project development, financing, mergers & acquisitions, and commercial contracts.
  • Draft and negotiate key agreements, such as power purchase agreements (PPAs), asset purchase and sale agreements, hedge contracts, equipment supply contracts, and construction contracts.
  • Support renewable energy developers, investors, corporate buyers, and utilities involved in project financing, development, and management.
  • Collaborate with teams working to transition from fossil fuels to clean energy sources.
  • Assist in the structuring and implementation of complex energy transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and support in navigating financial requirements of renewable energy projects.
  • Contribute to client-facing work, project management, and contract negotiations.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of law firm experience in project development, finance, mergers & acquisitions, and commercial contracts.
  • Experience in the renewable energy industry preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy agreements, such as power purchase agreements, purchase and sale agreements, and construction contracts is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and clients in a team-oriented environment.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong client management skills and a commitment to providing practical, innovative solutions.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the relevant state bar (or ability to waive into the bar).

Certifications:

  • Bar admission in the relevant state(s), or eligibility to waive in.

Skills:

  • Expertise in project development, finance, and M&A transactions within the renewable energy sector.
  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting capabilities.
  • Ability to handle complex legal matters related to energy law.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage client relationships effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with a solid understanding of regulatory and financial aspects of energy transactions.
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
