Practice Manager - International Trade Candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and improving the practice group systems, workflows, and business operations. Executing and delivering practice group strategies while driving revenue and increasing profitability. Work with the practice group leader and key partners to understand practice group strategy and forecast client needs, service delivery, and requisite staffing needs. Design and implement case/project management plansâ€”including project staffing, logistics, and monitoring work-flow within practice group. Manage the overall workflow of paralegals, legal secretaries, and records staff within practice group including quality control and monitoring of projects; serves as direct supervisor for Legal Support staff in the International Trade practice. Assist integration of staff and attorneys by providing practice group-specific training and maintaining current reference and just-in-time training resources on intranet. Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to insure broad communication between leaders, partners, attorneys and staff within the group. Serve as a liaison between practice leadership and staff to ensure effective practice group communication. Provide timely feedback, including continual coaching and development of others including on-going management and feedback of staff under his/her direct or indirect supervision. Organize regular practice area communications including practice group meetings, partner meetings, staff meetings and related activities. Identify opportunities for efficiency through utilization of technology; assist with the development of such solutions where appropriate, and once developed, embed best practices within the group. Create systems for efficient case management, including matter portals to organize work product, resources and case materials in an easily accessible manner for all Trade group matters. Develop and/or modify practice area procedures as needed to achieve best practices and maintain current documentation of same on practice intranet site. Serve as knowledge management leader to organize and harness practice area resources, capabilities, experiences, exemplar documents, and other resources. Working with the practice group leader, provide research and project management in the areas of business development, practice strategy and industry trends. Create and maintain standardized procedures, quality control measures, and regular APO training for staff and attorneys; ensures compliance with APO and jurisdictional rules/requirements through thorough review of public and confidential versions of filings, maintenance of APO records and rosters. Work with Information Services department to maintain compliance with current APO requirements for electronic materials. Monitor agency deadlines for compliance with regulations regarding certification and destruction; review materials and ensure timely compliance.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; JD Degree or MBA preferred. 10+ years of experience in the law firm environment with progressing levels of responsibility throughout career, prior management/supervisory experience required. Demonstrated self-starter who shows ownership and commitment to perform responsibilities with high professional standards. Experience with knowledge management and/or project management preferred. Experience with practice group management in a regulatory or litigation practice strongly preferred. Excellent organizational skills, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at various levels. Ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under tight deadlines. Well-developed and sophisticated analytical and problem-solving skills. High level of emotional intelligence. Demonstrated ability to apply innovation in identifying problems and in proposing and implementing solutions. Strong interpersonal communication skills for team leadership, and external and internal communications. Position requires strong use of technologies and advanced capability with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat. Aptitude for learning and evaluating software solutions and other technologies.
