Lawyer / Junior Associate Counsel Duties: Conduct initial investigation and perform witness interviews; maintain extremely organized and current case files; draft requests for medical records, client correspondence, miscellaneous information requests and demand letters; negotiate settlements with insurance company representatives; draft all necessary documents for civil litigation such as the complaint, requests for discovery and other pre-trial motions; conduct depositions; attend arbitration proceedings; draft and argue pre-trial motions; chair bench trials and jury trials; and draft the initial paperwork for civil appeals. Will be asked to perform initial investigations; conduct police and witness interviews; attend MVD hearings; cover misdemeanor and felony criminal court hearings; be able to research, draft and argue motions based on pre-trial issues; chair bench trials and jury trials; and draft the initial paperwork for criminal appeals.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: 3-5 years of relevant work experience with relevant civil or criminal litigation experience in the areas of personal injury, criminal defense, appeals, immigration, family law or civil / business litigation. Candidate must be acclimated to the demanding environment involved with meeting deadlines, responding quickly to difficult situations and creating effective solutions to problems. Should be able to conduct topic identification research using both manual research tools and computer assisted legal research methods (Lexis and Westlaw) in order to synthesize case law, federal and state statutes, legislative history, constitutional provisions and administrative regulations, while providing unbiased analytical predictions on the current status of the law. Should also be able to assist the firm in drafting client memoranda and both substantive and procedural motions, providing assistance on issues arising from actual or anticipated litigation, as well as providing trial preparation.
