Supervising Attorney The candidate oversees the daily operations of the Unit, including, monitoring of attorney, support staff, and hearing officer workload and work performance, providing training and advice to attorneys on the evaluation and prosecution of cases, handling personnel matters, and working with Branch and Office management to assure the goals for the Unit are accomplished. Vertically prosecuting code violations and animal cruelty and negligence cases; participating in inter-agency task forces seeking code compliance; developing legislative proposals and recommendations; interacting with public interest law firms; participating in training seminars related to code enforcement and animal protection matters; participating in efforts to address rent stabilization violations as well as illegal short-term rental activity; and, responding to complaints related to code enforcement and animal protection issues. Should have 5+ years of criminal prosecution experience, including significant criminal trial experience; Excellent oral advocacy and writing skills; Experience seeking code compliance on real property-related violations; Comprehensive understanding of evidentiary and trial issues; The ability to evaluate attorneysâ€™ work performance and provide constructive feedback; The ability to evaluate current operations and make recommendations for programmatic enhancements; The demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to address complex or intractable code enforcement issues; and The ability to interface with governmental officials, agencies and employees, as well as members of the public. Prior supervisory experience is highly desirable. Substantial experience prosecuting civil complaints preferred. Prior experience handling animal neglect and cruelty matters desired.
