Intellectual Property - Patent General

Associate Director, US Patent Counsel Responsibilities: Responsible for patent portfolios and their management, including: Portfolio strategy, patentability and validity assessments and drafting and worldwide patent prosecution in the areas of responsibility. Support of BD departments including: P due diligence, In- and out-licensing. Support of R&D, Marketing & Commercial, and Regulatory functions. Freedom-to-Operate opinions. Inter partes review (US)/Oppositions (EP). Patent litigation. Patent support for generic business. IP training of staff, including colleagues within the legal and compliance group, BD members and R&D and commercial colleagues. Legal IP advice on agreements (employment, service, research, supply, licensing, joint-venture) and IP license negotiations.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Qualified U.S. patent attorney, admitted to practice in at least one state and eligible for registration as In-House Counsel in New Jersey. Master’s degree or Ph. D in biotech engineering, chemistry or biology. 8-15 years of experience in the patent field, including 4-8 years as a patent attorney. Experience with biologic patents and USPTO subject matter eligibility guidelines preferred. Experience in multinational environment preferred. Experience in managing Patent Searchers &/or Paralegals preferred.
