IP Docketing Specialist Candidate would be responsible for providing Intellectual Property (IP) docket and case management support to the firm and overseeing the workflow of the department including Docketing Clerk and Docket Specialist. Entering and maintaining information in the IP docket and case management software database (CPI software), calculates action due dates, and makes appropriate entries. Performing on-line research via public access websites, PAIR system, USPTO, and Foreign PTO. Reviewing and responding to e-mail directed to the IP Docket mailbox. Responsible for scanning original documents into the IP docket e-mail box on a daily basis. Ensuring accurate and timely completion of requests. Coordinating and participating in the distribution of daily and weekly individual dockets to attorneys, paralegals and assistants, maintaining and staying abreast of rule and procedural changes and performs follow up inquiries with timekeepers to ensure appropriate conclusions. Tracking critical dates and related details and delivers information to attorneys and staff. Preparing customized reports, maintains firm’s docket in an up-to-date manner to ensure that filing dates are not overlooked. Identifying, recommending and documenting changes to IP docket policies, procedures, forms, etc. to provide better service and support to timekeepers. Coordinating day-to-day activities of the patent docket teams. Overall maintenance and management of the IP docketing software (CPI), working with CPI technicians as needed.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: 2+ years of prior patent experience, preferably in a patent docket environment. Strong familiarity with the patent docketing practices, both U.S. and foreign is required. Should be energetic, self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Must be able to work as a member of a larger legal team, as well as independently manage a variety of tasks. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Bachelor degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred. Law firm experience preferred.
