Organization: Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) Job Title: Paralegal Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent professional experience required; Bachelor's degree preferred Salary: $46,350 - $65,150 based on relevant experience Location: Lansing, Michigan H1: Join Our Team as a Paralegal at MIRC in Lansing, Michigan H2: Help Low Income Immigrants with Legal Services The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) is seeking a Paralegal to join their team in Lansing, Michigan. MIRC is a legal resource center for immigrant communities, providing direct legal services, systemic advocacy, and community education and engagement. As part of the Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services (MSAS), MIRC is committed to advancing justice and systemic solutions for those most affected by poverty and oppression. Responsibilities: - Assist attorneys with cases and participate in office-wide projects and client services - Eventually handle some cases independently as a DOJ-accredited representative - Pursue DOJ accreditation within six months of receiving the role with full support from MIRC - Ensure excellent communication, collaboration, analytical and problem-solving skills - Demonstrate commitment to protecting the rights of immigrants or other persons in poverty - Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail - Proficiency with major software and web services, including Word, Excel, and G Suite - Access to reliable internet connection if working remotely Qualifications: - Associate's degree or equivalent professional experience required; Bachelor's degree preferred - Relevant experience, especially related to immigration and poverty, will receive priority - Prior experience with immigration law preferred to seek DOJ accreditation - Spanish language proficiency required - Relevant lived experience encouraged to apply Benefits: - Full-time position with starting salary range of $46,350 - $65,150 based on relevant experience - Generous benefits package including life, short- and long-term disability, health, vision, dental, and flexible spending accounts - Option for annual $1,500 payout if health benefits not needed - Generous leave policy with 3 weeks of paid vacation in the first year and 15 paid holidays - 401K retirement plan with employer match for eligible staff after 6 months of employment - Qualifying employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness To Apply: - Complete application and submit resume and cover letter - Applications reviewed on a rolling basis until position is filled - Equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace If you have a passion for protecting the rights of immigrants and want to join a talented team doing important and challenging work, this is the opportunity for you.
