Paralegal Assistant - Immigration
The candidate will be part of a team, working directly with attorneys and other paralegals representing employers in sponsoring foreign workers for immigration sponsorship. Primary responsibilities include: assisting in case processing by drafting immigration forms, support letters and various correspondences. Perform intake and case initiation once matter is assigned. Draft Petitions/Applications and file with government agency. Write detailed persuasive letters. Analyze immigration documents of foreign national employee and family members. Analyze the position requirements provided by the corporate client. Maintain client contact information. Provide status updates. File documents in proper order. Update case management system. Learn procedural and processing requirements for various types of non-immigrant and immigrant visa petitions and applications. Build knowledge of Firm and client processes. Time entry, scanning, e-mailing, etc. Assist in Firm marketing for practice area.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree OR (a) Associate of Arts degree and not less than one year of in-house training as a Paralegal Assistant or Paralegal Intern at the Firm, or (b) 1-5 years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney or Senior Paralegal, demonstrating a superior command of the skills necessary to be a Paralegal; AND, in addition to (a) or (b), (c) Completion of an educational program for Paralegals that has been approved by the ABA or offered by an accredited institution which is in substantial compliance with ABA guidelines for the approval of Paralegal programs. Strong knowledge in the following areas required: PERM labor certification process and recruitment; L-1 visa applications for individual and blanket applications; H-1B and Labor Condition Applications and compliance; and O-1 visa and EB-1 permanent residence applications. Experience in employment-based immigration preferred. Fluency in a foreign language beneficial. Law firm experience an asset.

Lawyers of this firm should begin expanding their services. If the firm growth increased in the later year their profits would greatly increase and more employees would be eager to work here.

Pros : This local firm enjoys catering to their clients and is truly dedicated to making them happy. Employees feel a sense of closeness working with this firm and the environment is much like family. Employees feel very close to one another and management seems to carry a bond with employees as well.
Cons : Although this firm has a great reputation among local folks, the business itself is still quite small. If other employees wanted to join this firm they would most likely have to wait a while. It seems this firm does not expand their employment for quite some time.
