Corporate IP Paralegal Responsibilities: Participate in and assist with the management, growth and maintenance of Victaulic’s global intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Interact with external counsel to review, process and maintain dockets of filing and response deadlines, including gathering and preparing necessary supporting information from publicly available sources and team members. Review and respond to correspondence from local and foreign counsel; prepare formal documents such as Declarations, Assignments, POAs and other documentation necessary to support foreign filings. Maintenance of electronic and hardcopy intellectual property files, including original patent document and trademark certificates. Perform research and compile data as requested by Company attorneys, including general legal research, patent and trademark searches. Maintain, monitor, and update database of watched patent and trademark files. Docket, query and export information from the Company’s client portals and hosted IP databases in services such as CPA Global and Thomson IP Manager. Monitor IP billings for compliance with budgets and Company policies; generate useful reports for spend tracking. Assist with and support IP litigation including docket and file maintenance, the gathering and analysis of information, materials, documents, reports and evidence for case preparation and in response to discovery. Coordinate the gathering of information from various business groups, operating companies, and departments in connection with the preparation of analyses, contracts and other legal documents. Provide assistance in connection with transactional due diligence. Review, edit, and prepare contracts, forms, presentations, and other legal documents at the direction of counsel. Assist CLO and other Legal Department team members with general legal, para-professional, and administrative tasks as needed.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: BS/BA degree; paralegal certificate or equivalent knowledge required. PA Notary Public. Experience working independently and efficiently to meet deadlines in a para-professional capacity within the corporate legal environment or law firm. Experience with IP filings, maintenance, and renewals a plus. Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as familiarity with legal and commercial terminology. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software, especially Microsoft Excel, and including the handling of data import and export, manipulation of large datasets, and the ability to reduce data to useful charts and other visualizations. Familiarity with Microsoft Access and SaaS docketing systems a plus. Extreme attention to detail and ability to identify potential problems and recommend feasible solutions. Strong organizational and project management skills and ability to initiate, prioritize, manage and drive to completion multiple tasks and projects assigned. The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, outside counsel and business partners and to interact professionally at all levels of the organization.
