Professional Development Coordinator Duties: Under the supervision of the Senior CLE/Professional Development Manager, responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of in-house training and development programs for firm attorneys, paralegals and staff offered through University; assisting with the development of client training programs; and helping coordinate the firm’s Continuing Legal Education (CLE) efforts. Work with the Executive Director, the Senior CLE/Professional Development Manager, the Senior Career Development Manager and others in the development, scheduling, implementation and assessment of internal training programs for attorneys, paralegals and staff. Oversee course development and training administration logistics, including program scheduling. Work with in-house faculty and other staff members in developing learning objectives, content and structure for in-house training programs. Work directly with in-house faculty to develop PowerPoints, other types of presentations and handout materials for in-house and client training programs. Design, write and revise staff training materials, including instructors’ guides, PowerPoint presentations, participant handouts, and supplemental materials. On an ongoing basis, assess effectiveness of in-house training programs and advise on ways to improve them, including working with technology specialists or consultants to develop technology training solutions. Develop new and improve existing procedures for coordinating complex, multi-office training programs. Develop and teach programs from time to time to enhance course offerings. Collaborate with subject matter experts to create or repurpose existing content as e-learning modules. Participate in the assessment and hiring of outside faculty for in-house training programs and work with outside instructors to customize programs to meet firm requirements and standards. Assist with CLE activities: Learn and keep abreast of the attorney and paralegal CLE requirements in all jurisdictions in which the firm has offices. Work with the firm’s Senior CLE Manager and training faculty to insure that in-house and client programs comply with those requirements. Assist in CLE record-keeping and reporting. Provide assistance with administrative operations, including program logistics, learning management system operations, and metrics reporting. Support Associate and Paraprofessional evaluation processes and other related career development initiatives. Collaborate with other firm administrative departments, including IT, recruiting, marketing and human resources. Keep up-to-date on current trends, developments and best practices in the field of attorney, paralegal and staff development by reading professional journals, articles and books, and attending attorney development seminars, conferences and workshops. Assist with special professional development tasks from time to time as needed. Provide direct assistance, when requested, to the Executive Director.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Four-year degree required; law or education degree or advanced coursework in adult learning preferred. Experience in law firm administration preferred. Experience in a law firm or corporate training department a plus. Knowledge of the following is preferred: Adult learning principles and how to apply them. Advanced instructional design. Training and development activities, functions and delivery methods. Computer systems and technologies used to deliver and administer training programs. Ability to work closely and effectively with all levels of firm personnel required; demonstrated management and supervisory skills a plus. Requires excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills, good judgment, flexibility and the ability to work with little supervision. Must be able to prioritize workload and solve problems quickly. Strong computer skills required, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Proficiency using Captivate (e-learning authoring tool), and ability to conduct legal and factual research and use online research tools, a plus.
