Law Students The students will join a not-for-profit legal assistance program committed to focusing attention through the legal system on the needs of low-income rural New Yorkers. Areas of Law: Consumer, Debt/Credit/Bankruptcy, Disaster and Emergency Assistance, Education, Elder Law, Family and Juvenile, Foreclosure, Housing, and Public Benefits Populations Served: Children, Domestic Violence Victims, Elderly, Farm workers, Immigrants, Low Income, Native Americans, State Residents, Working poor and unemployed Need for non-English services: French, Russian, Spanish, American Sign Language Hours for Pro Bono Opportunities: Evenings, Monday-Friday 9 am - 5 pm, Weekends Types of projects in need of Pro Bono help: Client counseling (e.g., brief advice), Draft legal documents (e.g., briefs), Litigation: Trial/Direct Representation
