Assistant General Counsel, Privacy and Compliance
The candidate performs as a specialist in one or more fields of law, provides technical and expert legal services. Plans, conducts and supervises large and highly complex legal assignments; evaluates both legal and business risks and advises clients accordingly. Provides legal counsel to all levels of management, including senior management. Provides lead direction and/or project leadership direction to less experienced attorneys and professional staff. Prepares, and revises as necessary, budgets and early matter assessments for all matters involving outside privacy and compliance counsel. Manages relationships and matters with Business Units and outside counsel and advisors. Demonstrates superior business knowledge in portions of the business and industry; anticipates and understands trends in areas of law related to the business. Strong leadership skills; ability to work in stressful conditions under tight deadlines.
Qualification and ExperienceThe candidate should have an LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions. Should have 10 years of professional experience with at least 7 years focused on privacy law, including current knowledge of legal developments and trends. Deep understanding of existing and emerging cybersecurity related risks, statutes, regulations and best practices (General Data Protection Regulation, etc.). Experience reviewing and editing policies and procedures to enhance Privacy, Information Security and Data compliance. Demonstrated experience practicing in the areas of data security and protection, data ethics, information security and privacy laws. Experience working within a privacy, information and cybersecurity and data law team at a large company or large law firm preferred. Ability to analyze complex legal issues and to develop and execute risk-focused solutions. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships within and across business groups and functions at all levels of the organization. Effective written and oral communication skills. Effective organizational, multi-tasking and prioritization skills, including ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Ability to motivate, communicate, delegate, and inspire confidence in others.
