Senior Accountant - Professional IV The candidate will ensure the accuracy and timeliness preparation and transmission of the Laboratory’s financial data to the Standard Accounting and Reporting System (STARS) at the U.S. Department of Energy. Will manage assistance with the monthly trial balance reconciliation between firm and DOE at an accounting flexfield level, the uncosted balances reconciliation between firm and DOE, and all other periodic reconciliations as required by the DOE or firm management. Act as the backup for the corporate trial balances and monthly financial statements to ensure appropriate presentation of results in accordance with GAAP and other internal procedures. Reviews and conducts analysis, reports on discrepancies, and assists with the corrections of the firm financial statements to ensure correct financial reporting to the DOE. Performs and conducts analysis of balance sheet and other account reconciliations and supporting schedules, reports on discrepancies and assists in monthly account resolutions. Act as the backup for general ledger and project accounting maintenance, including the chart of accounts, and Oracle subledger accounting. . Assists in the development of Oracle and other system reports to assist the Financial Reporting Team in ensuring adequate internal controls are maintained. Prepares or assists with the preparation of external and internal ad hoc financials and accounting report requests. Provides support for internal and external audit requests as needed, including the timely and accurate preparation of audit schedules. Ensures compliance with financial operations policies and procedures, and ensure adequate controls are in place and operating effectively.. Assists in the design, implementation, and enhancements to existing systems and system controls to ensure data integrity and required data integrations and outflows. Responsible for all other accounting and financial operations duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must preferably have Master’s degree in accounting or equivalent relevant experience. Certified Public Accountant or CPA candidate is preferred. Prior government contractor experience is preferred. Must have Bachelor's degree and 9+ years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Relevant Master's Degree and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience is needed. PhD degree and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience is preferred. Must have JD degree and 4+ years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Excellent leadership, project management and problem solving skills are needed. Thorough working knowledge of GAAP is required. Demonstrated experience with fully integrated ERP financial systems is required. Strong written and oral communication skills with a variety of customers and management levels is required.
