Litigation Paralegal Duties: Responsible for managing files (the case record ) including a complete set of the correspondence, memos, pleadings, discovery, and client documents in a matter (currently using a Worldox document management system) and monitoring deadlines by creating and maintaining calendars of key dates. Handling electronic and hard-copy submissions to various courts and tribunals. Manages document production processes - hard copy, electronic, subpoenas, etc.: Assists attorneys in the document collection process from client, opposing parties, and third parties (hard copies, electronic data, physical evidence). Maintains chain of custody. Tracks materials through the various processes. Designs and implements document review systems. Prepares privilege logs. Coordinates with Litigation Support to manage logistics of document productions (hard copy, images, native). Substantive Research: Analyzes client and discovery documents and materials. Performs factual research. Compiles information into charts, graphs and timelines. Researches prior testimony and publications of opposing experts. Researches rules of procedure for relevant court venues, and national and international arbitration centers, and assures adherence thereto. Knowledge and proficiency with Lexis. Coordinates preparation and filing of briefs and legal documents: Performs legal cite checking, caselaw shepardizing (Lexis), and fact cite checking. Compiles appendices and exhibits. Assist attorneys in ensuring briefs and other court submissions comport with Blue Book formatting and with federal and local rules. Proofreads court briefs and submissions to arbitration tribunals. Files briefs/arbitration submissions with courts and tribunals (ECF and hard copy when necessary) and serves filings/submissions on parties. Interacts with outside entities: Independently communicates with clients, government agencies, expert witnesses, consultants, other law firms, opposing counsel, vendors, court personnel, etc. Knowledge of litigation support systems: Substantial knowledge working with litigation support databases (CaseMap, Summation, Relativity, etc.); transcript management systems (TextMap); and calendaring, task sharing, collaborative systems. Manages discovery preparation for witness interviews and depositions: Manages preparation of witness & subject files. Assists in preparation of witness outlines and witness exhibits. Works with expert witnesses. Manages technical logistics for depositions (remote hookups, electronic transcripts, videography, synchronization). Manages trial preparation and trial support: Compiles and tracks trial exhibits. Prepares pretrial documents. Sets up and manages trial offices and trial support (e.g., remote office setup and logistics). Assists with closing and archiving case files. Manages resources: Coordinates closely with legal, secretarial, and administrative staff. Obtains and supervises support from Firm departments (e.g. Litigation Support, Document Processing, Secretarial Services, Library). Manages relationships with supporting vendors (graphics, court reporters, trial support, hotels, etc.). Assists with bill preparation: Reviews time descriptions and time increments for consistency, suggests edits, interacts with Billing Coordinator. Qualifications: Bachelor A?A s Degree required, paralegal certificate a plus; Demonstrated experience with cite checking and Blue Booking; Demonstrated experience planning, time management, and organization skills, including the ability to manage a number of projects concurrently; Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; Demonstrated proactive approach and the ability to work hands-on A? as required; Strong coordination and teamwork skills; Strong problem-solving skills; Solid experience preparing and working at trials/arbitrations and hearings. including working with court reporters and preparing exhibits for depositions; Solid experience filing documents with various U.S. courts (via ECF and using traditional hard copy methods); Experience implementing process improvements is a plus; Experience with intellectual property litigation is a plus; Experience with filings before international tribunals is a plus; and Foreign language skills and experience working in multi-language environments are a plus. 5+ years' paralegal experience in a complex litigation or international arbitration practice, including managing large discovery, creating and managing databases and imaging systems, coordinating teams, facilitating trial preparations, and managing trial support. Must have high-level experience with a range of litigation support applications, as well as experience handling multiple filings simultaneously and working in cross-cultural environments. Must also have experience managing logistics for out-of-town trials or arbitration hearings. Additional must have A? qualifications include excellent analytical and organizational abilities, solid written and oral communication skills and management skills, creativity, and initiative. Travel and overtime may be required. Required proficiency in the use of law office software, including Word, Excel, Adobe and PowerPoint; and document management systems; Demonstrated proficiency in the use of e-discovery and deposition transcript tools (e.g. Relativity/Summation/TextMap).
