Paralegal The candidate will assist in preparing legal documents such as bankruptcy schedules, motions, contracts, and agreements. Assist attorneys in preparation for hearings and trials. Case file management (create, organize, track and maintain files; monitor calendars and meeting deadlines; document actions; input information into file database and case management software). Help develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case, scheduling depositions, assisting with discovery requests and responses, and preparing and filing pleadings. Document management including review of documents, bates labeling, organization of documents and compiling information for discovery responses/pleadings/motions. Perform factual research and investigation. Proofread legal documents. Review documents for content and privilege; compile privilege logs. Draft correspondence and memoranda for attorneys as requested. Utilize computer databases to organize, store and access information; conduct moderately complex research on LEXIS, and other online computer assisted research databases. Case management, including advanced working knowledge of E-discovery, including the technical aspects of collecting, reviewing, and producing electronically stored information (state and federal court).
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have an Associate's degree and Paralegal certificate. Must have 2+ years’ experience of commercial and consumer bankruptcy filings. Probate, adversarial proceeding and civil experience very helpful. Should have sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, including electronic filing, due diligence preparation, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS, billing, accounting and client management tools such as time matters and billing matters. Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources is needed. Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important. Proficiency in Time Matters, ECF, Best Case, Adobe Acrobat, preferred.
