Director of Policy Affairs/ Assistant General Counsel The candidate will be responsible for developing the strategy to advance the public safety and criminal justice based policy initiatives of the Secretary, the Executive Office and the Governor. Will be required to articulate the views of the Secretariat, including its agencies, on all legislative and policy development issues. Plans, organizes, coordinates and integrates legislative and policy review programs and the development of new legislation and policy in coordination with the Governorâ€™s Office. Oversee EOPSSâ€™ communication to legislators with both members and their staffs in order to most effectively advocate on behalf of the Secretariat. Represents the Secretariat at legislative committee meetings and hearings and provides information on proposed legislation to the legislators for their review and comment. Serve as the Secretaryâ€™s designee, set agendas, run meetings and manage the relationships and expectations of members of the Boards, Commissions and Task Forces. Function as Board, Commission and Task Force counsel, when appropriate and as assigned, to provide legal guidance in support of EOPSS leadership and the membership. Coordinate the appointment of key members to Boards Commission and Task Forces. Work with EOPSS leadership and the Governorâ€™s Appointments Office to ensure Boards, Commissions and Task Forcesâ€™ membership are up to date, and functioning according to their gubernatorial or legislative mandates. Provide legal analysis of proposed or pending legislation, policy or regulations. Respond to, and coordinate the response to, public records requests, and other general requests for information. Assist in the research and drafting of legislative and regulatory changes. Assist EOPSS agency legal staff in their response to public records requests, general information requests from EOPSS in response to the Governorâ€™s office or legislative offices. Should have 4+ years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, professional internship, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below. Should have a certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for 1+ year of the required experience. An Associateâ€™s degree in a related field may be substituted for 1+ year of the required experience is essential. Should have a Bachelorâ€™s degree in a related field may be substituted for 2+ years of the required experience. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for 3+ years of the required experience is needed. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
