Law Clerk, GS 1188450 The candidate will analyze complex, legal, scientific, engineering and other information and interpret the significance of this data under prevailing legal principles, as expressed in statute, regulations, and case law. Based on these analyses, the incumbent will prepare legal documents, including briefs, for administrative and judicial proceedings which will contain analysis of the complex scientific, technological, legal, or other issues relevant to the matter at hand. Incumbent will conduct legal research and assist with litigation under the FOIA and the Privacy Act. Conduct legal research in connection with legal questions pertaining to the pollution programs and is responsible for interpreting and applying statues, rules and regulations relating to the provisions of appropriate Acts and other pertinent laws, regulations; court legal documents and textbooks. In this capacity, the incumbent prepares tentative drafts of letters, memoranda, and legal documents for use by attorneys in the preparation of opinions, legislative reports, briefs, and other documents; compiles legislative history in connection with pending legislation. Prepare cases for filing by drafting complaints, orders to show cause, indictments, preliminary motions, and supporting affidavits and briefs; prepare drafts or pleadings and motions in connection with cases in litigation, and participate in pretrial hearings. Use personal contacts to include program officials, prospective witnesses, and other persons having knowledge of the facts involved in the problem or case under study. The incumbent obtains information and legal references pertinent to the problem at hand, studies the legal precedents and prepares recommendations for review by the attorney under whom the incumbent works. As part of these contacts, the incumbent will attend conferences with representatives of other Federal agencies, industry, state and local governments and congressional committees for the purpose of fact gathering and to gain experience. Perform other duties as required. Traveling is required.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have an LL.B. or J.D. degree from an accredited law school by June 22, 2018; the incumbent must be admitted to the Bar within fourteen (14) months of employment, at which time the incumbent will be reclassified as an Attorney-Adviser, GS-0905-11.
