UAC Managing Attorney
The candidate will manage contract funded program to provide legal services and support to unaccompanied children in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement and maintain an appropriate direct representation caseload. Oversee and train UAC project staff including attorney staff as well as observing KYR presentations and legal screening periodically to ensure information is up to date and presented in an accessible manner, and to ensure compliance with Vera monitoring and reporting policies. Participate in regular calls with funder and disseminate project updates to the UAC team. Ensure implementation as well as supervising development of new materials and/or documents and submit any proposed materials to funder. Assist with contract development as needed with funder. Facilitate the weekly staff meeting where we assess eligibility for relief, how to best match the child with representation, and to identify victims of trafficking. Liaise with UAC stakeholders which includes quarterly meetings, facilitating continued assurance that KYRs and screenings will meet contract deadlines, and maintaining positive relationships with all stakeholders. Provide representation for UCs without reunification options, UCs who have been released locally (continued representation), and UCs in immigration court proceedings. Recruit and coordinate pro bono attorneys for the project. Prepare and finalize a monthly narrative for the funder and submit monthly invoices.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must be Graduate of U.S. ABA-accredited law school. Should Licensed by a state bar, preferably Oregon. Must have 2 years’ experience practicing immigration law or juvenile law. Should preferably have Extensive experience working with diverse cultures and underserved and underrepresented communities. Experience working with children is desired. Experience working with survivors of trauma is preferred. Must have fluency in written and spoken Spanish (a written and oral exam may be required). Should have strong client communication skills. Excellent oral and written advocacy skills are required. Must have proficient legal research skills.
