Ethics Counsel
Duties: The candidate will advise on questions regarding compliance with professional rules of conduct in jurisdictions throughout the firm. Perform legal research, including review of case law and ethics opinions regarding the same. Work with General Counsel, GC Deputies, and firm Risk Management Committee to oversee and coordinate ethical compliance throughout the firm in domestic and non-domestic offices. Primary legal advisor to the New Business & Conflicts department and staff, which includes a team of conflicts analysts and Risk and Compliance Attorneys. Oversee team of Risk & Compliance Attorneys. Liaise with firm partners and leadership regarding resolution of the most complicated new business and lateral conflicts issues. Work with non-US Firm offices to coordinate legal conflicts and compliance processes and resolution. Oversee all legal related processes regarding conflicts resolution including implementation of ethical walls and waivers. Assist in maintaining conflicts training for lawyers and professional staff across the firm, as well as developing new procedures for streamlining conflict check requests; consult on systems to improve conflict checks firm wide. Coordinate engagement documents across offices. Stay up to date on ethical issues and decisions and work with OGC to provide education and alerts regarding same. Advise on questions regarding the identification and handling of potential new matters that may raise ESG related ethical or institutional concerns.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: The candidate should have a J.D. degree and be an active member of a US Bar in good standing. 10+ years of legal experience, litigation background a plus, significant experience as a Conflicts Attorney, Professional Responsibility Counsel, or Ethics Counsel in a large law firm (or comparable experience) with demonstrated research and complex problem-solving skills strongly preferred. Experience with analyzing and advising on U.S. conflicts rules is required. Experience serving on bar ethics committees or professional responsibility committees is considered a strong advantage. Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with all levels of the Firm staff and attorneys and to help address concerns, including regarding high-stakes matters that require significant judgment. Requires ability to oversee and supervise staff members.
