Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Prosecution and Litigation Associate Attorney to join their team. This role focuses on handling electrical engineering, software, and mechanical patent prosecution and litigation matters. The successful candidate will play a key role in drafting patent applications, managing complex legal matters, and contributing to the firm’s intellectual property practice.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in electrical engineering, software, and mechanical fields
  • Manage patent litigation matters, including pre-trial, trial, and post-trial activities
  • Advise clients on intellectual property strategies and patent portfolio management
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses
  • Prepare legal briefs, opinions, and other related documents
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients to provide comprehensive legal advice
  • Assist in the preparation of intellectual property filings with the USPTO and other international jurisdictions
  • Handle client communication with professionalism and confidentiality

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution and litigation
  • Strong background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar technical fields such as physics or mathematics
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO
  • Licensed to practice law in California
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Previous experience with other forms of intellectual property law is a plus

Education:

  • A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field

Certifications:

  • Must be a registered patent attorney with the USPTO
  • Active California Bar membership

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution, litigation, and IP law
  • Strong drafting and legal writing skills
  • In-depth knowledge of patent law and procedures
