Lead Counsel I - Property Tax Litigation
The council will advise business and leadership about legal rights, obligations, and risks while managing a national docket of property tax litigation matters for the world’s largest retailer. Play a critical role in developing mitigation strategies by ensuring consistent implementation of company policies and practices, including those relating to property tax litigation and appeals around the country. Collaborate with property tax managers and other specialists on cross-functional teams to mitigate legal and business risk, providing legal advice and counsel. Retain, manage and collaborate closely with outside counsel to drive case strategy, review and edit case submissions, and manage legal spending. Create legal strategies for the Company’s property tax litigation matters. Develop best practices and procedures that will mitigate corporate risk. Manage outside counsel and legal spending for property tax litigation matters. Provide legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders. Identify the need for legal support for business transactions and projects. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must hold a Law degree from an accredited law school with 8 years’ experience practicing law including 6 years’ experience in law and 2 years’ experience leading cross-functional teams. Be licensed to practice law in at least one State. Be subject matter expert in property tax litigation. Substantial experience litigating property tax matters is required. Be driven to execute and to act quickly, process-minded, and look for opportunities to streamline for improved efficiency and effectiveness. Possess strong communication skills to interact with senior leadership, other internal stakeholders, and outside counsel.
