Paralegal II The candidate prepares/edits legal documents, such as correspondence, pleadings, and discovery by using a combination of standard or jurisdictional templates and newly drafted content for attorney approval. Organizes litigation files electronically. Anticipates the need to maintain an accurate and timely file calendar within departmental guidelines. Interviews insureds and witnesses discovery responses. Synthesizes file material to draft discovery responses for attorney and client approval. Communicates with insureds, court reporters, clerks of court, judge assistants, and opposing counsel under general direction of the attorney. Self-directed to create document templates as necessary. Anticipates the need to schedule depositions, hearings, mediations, and meetings. Initiates the review of medical records and prepares medical chronologies. Collaboratively works with attorney to manage the file including recognition of work completed and work yet to be completed. Prepare/organize exhibits for use at deposition or trial. Performs other related work as assigned. Associate degree, paralegal certification, or 4 years of related work experience in the legal field is needed. Should have 3+ years of law office experience. Paralegal certified is preferred. Demonstrate knowledge of commonly-used legal concepts, practices and procedures in the insurance industry is needed. Understand complex legal terminology is needed. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is needed. Communicate clear, concise information to others, using oral or written communication techniques are needed. Demonstrate knowledge of both state and federal Rules of Civil Procedure is needed.
