Head of Legal Project Management The candidate will join the firm's expanding Knowledge Management department. Will report to the firm's Chief Knowledge Officer. Support the KM Department's mission and principles through actively developing and aligning Legal Project Management goals and strategies with the firm's goals and strategies. Continue development of the firm's Legal Project Management (LPM) program. Continue to develop LPM resources and services, including the preparation, maintenance, and promotion of: guidance related to best practices, procedures, tools, techniques, templates, checklists, reference materials, roles, and responsibilities. Supervise Legal Project Managers and Legal Project Management Counsel. Collaborate with attorneys to develop and implement LPM and matter management policies, procedures, tools, and techniques to help ensure that matters are executed in the most efficient and cost-effective manner and within budget. Work closely with members of the Knowledge Management, Pricing, and other administrative departments to ensure collaboration. Educate lawyers to become proficient in all aspects of LPM, including scoping and defining client matters, planning and budgeting, executing and monitoring work, and evaluating and improving how our attorneys provide legal services. Track matter efficiency and progress and periodically report on same. Collect a body of knowledge and documents related to LPM to further promote the use and acceptance of LPM at the firm. Create LPM training and education programs for attorneys and staff. Promote LPM and its benefits to attorneys, clients, and prospective clients. Track and report on LPM efforts and successes. Work with attorneys to respond to client requests regarding budgeting and budget tracking capabilities. Assist in tracking and analyzing actual matter costs against budget and proactively address budget variances. Recommend process improvements. Continue development of the firm's portfolio engagement program. Continue to develop and improve policies, best practices, procedures, tools, and techniques to help ensure that portfolio matters are executed, tracked, and maintained in the most efficient and cost-effective manner and within budget. Manage the portfolio engagement process by, among other things, working with, and coordinating the efforts and contributions of, multiple administrative groups. Promote portfolio engagement efforts internally, to clients, and prospective clients by, among other things, attending internal and client meetings and communicating the nature and value of the portfolio engagement structure. Work with other portfolio engagement team members to track and report on the firm's portfolio engagement efforts. Perform other duties, tasks, and functions as this position develops. Should have a J.D. or LL.M. degree. Must have Legal Project Management or Legal Knowledge Management experience. Experience managing litigation matters in a law firm or law department is required. Extensive knowledge of litigation matter lifecycle is essential.
