Profile

Temporary Lead Attorney and Litigation Specialist (Estate and Gift Tax) Duties: The candidate will specialize in Estate and Gift Tax law, conduct examinations to determine tax liability of the full range of estate and gift tax returns, as well as generation-skipping tax and fiduciary income tax returns. Will also provide litigation assistance to SBSE Counsel on select estate and gift tax cases. Examine estate, gift, and generation skipping and fiduciary returns. Lead a team of individuals in the examination of estate, gift, generation skipping and fiduciary returns. Ensure that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans, and work products and services. Represent the team in dealings with the supervisor or manager for the purpose of obtaining resources (e.g. computer hardware and software, use of overtime or compensatory time) and securing needed information or decisions from the supervisor on major work problems and issues. Estimate and report to the team progress in meeting established milestones and deadlines for completion of assignments, projects and tasks, and ensure that all team members are aware of and participate in short term and long term planning for achievement of team goals and objectives. Provide field litigation expertise to SBSE Counsel.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: The candidate should have a graduate degree, with an LL.B. or J.D. degree from a full course of study in a School of Law accredited by the ABA, or a State Accredited Law School, and be a member in good standing of the Bar of a State, Territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Qualifying experience is experience in examining the most complex federal estate, gift and generation skipping tax, and/or fiduciary tax returns.

For GS-14: In addition to the meeting the basic requirement, must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience with financial, business or professional accounting practices to examine federal estate, gift and generation skipping tax, and/or fiduciary tax returns involving novel issues of law, highly complex factual situations with numerous related entities, and/or related tax examinations. The ability to interpret and explain complex points of law related to legal and factual situations encountered and to negotiate with highly competent representatives concerning determinations made with respect to tax issues and liabilities.

Note 1: This is a contract job of up to 1 year, may be extended up to 5 years or made permanent without further competition.
