Data Privacy Attorney
The candidate will be responsible to help maintain and enhance firm’s Global Data Privacy compliance programme. Relevant activities include drafting and updating internal and external policies and notices, implementing best practices, developing training, overseeing the creation and maintenance of data processing records across multiple jurisdictions, performing privacy impact and compliance assessments, and presenting progress on the above to firm’s Data Privacy Steering Committee. Draft and implement consumer-facing policies and best practices across global business units, including through collaboration with firm’s Digital Technology & Privacy practice group. Partner with firm’s IT and Human Resources groups to provide counsel on compliance with GDPR and other data protection laws worldwide. Advise on data security implications raised by the use of enterprise-wide technology systems. Collaborate with firm’s government affairs group to stay abreast of the latest regulatory trends in the area of data protection. Counsel country-based commercial teams on data protection, data transfer, and data security issues, including those encountered in connection with e-commerce, digital marketing and advertising (including social media marketing), and promotions. Advice for territories in APAC, LATAM and EU. Provide internal education and training on relevant legal topics. International travel (approximately 10%).

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must be admitted as a Solicitor or called to the Bar of England and Wales or admitted as an Attorney in an EU jurisdiction. At least 5 years PQE in a law firm and/or in-house law department is necessary. J.D. from an accredited law school, excellent academic credentials, and Bar membership in good standing is mandatory. 5+ years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house law department is required. CIPP/EU or other global privacy certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals are a plus. Expertise in European data protection and data security laws and regulations (additional experience with non-EU regulatory regimes preferred) is essential. Outstanding oral and written communication skills and people skills are must.
