Paralegal The candidate assists attorneys in discovery and pre-trial matters under attorney supervision. Assists attorneys in handling assigned case files and delivering other legal services under attorney supervision. Assists attorneys in discovery, pre-trial matters and/or trial preparation. Drafts pleadings, motions, subpoenas, appellate pleadings, and other documents as assigned. Assists in trial preparation and strategy development, and actively participates in courtroom as attorney's assistant. Maintains paralegal competency by participation in continuing education programs. Must successfully complete orientation and training program as designated by the Managing Attorney or the Corporate Law Department. Travels via commercial transportation or driving to job related activities. May work irregular hours because of workload and nature of the work.
Qualification and Experience
A Litigation or paralegal experience, paralegal degree or certificate and/or medical training is required. Education, experience, and thorough understanding of litigation process in state of operation and local jurisdiction is required. Should have understanding of local, state and federal rules. Must have understanding and experience with medical records and terminology. Legal writing and research skills and knowledge of proper format and citations are needed. Must have a background in civil litigation, working familiarity with the Rules of Civil Procedure and strong writing skills. Experience with electronic filing in state superior courts is beneficial. Also have experience in the following areas: familiarity with the discovery process, retaining experts, preparing and filing motions and pre-trial/arbitration preparation. Must have experience with Word and Outlook. Essential skills also include the ability to work well with a team of lawyers and legal secretaries, and with opposing counsel and staff.
