Employment Law Attorney The candidate will advise on employment law matters as part of a team covering the wealth management business, with a focus on legal issues relating to recruiting/on-boarding of financial advisors/private wealth advisors, support staff and local branch management, preparation and negotiation of employment and compensation-related contracts and policies, investigating misconduct, including violation of agreements and policies, misappropriation of Trade Secrets and other confidential information. Will additional coverage areas may include legal issues relating to hiring, firing, discipline, reductions-in-force, compensation practices and policies, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblowing, overtime, leaves of absence, disability, requests for accommodation, diversity initiatives, workplace safety and workplace violence. Manage arbitration and litigation concerning recruiting and employment issues. Advise and help create, amend or modify HR-related policies and procedures. Evaluate proposed disciplinary action in high risk situations. Respond to charges of discrimination and/or regulatory investigations relating to employment matters (for example, matters brought by or before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the US Department of Labor, or state/local agencies that monitor employment practices). Oversee training on employment-related topics. Work collaboratively with other lawyers and staff and with other areas of the Firm, including Legal and Compliance, Risk, HR, Corporate Communications and the business units to respond appropriately to issues as the arise.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have 6+ years of legal experience, with focus on employment issues. Prior financial services experience is strongly preferred. Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills are needed. Strong oral and written communication skills are needed. Ability to work independently and manage high-volume case load is needed.
