Sustainability Lawyer Duties: Manage legal affairs for the Company’s global businesses, developing strategic legal solutions to support the Company’s sustainability programs in areas such as Human Rights, Climate, Water, and Forests, and work done by the Company’s Foundation. Provide legal advice and recommend action to executives and management on critical company issues. With minimal oversight, research, analyze and interpret proposed and existing laws, statutes, and regulations related to sustainability. Identify, evaluate and address issues of legal risk in the areas of ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) and draft global supply chain disclosures. Independently structure, draft, negotiate and approve legal contracts, letters of agreement, policies, and other documents related to a variety of trade, commercial, financial and operational matters. Under direction, research legal principles and precedents, consult with outside counsel, draft and execute legal documents and gather relevant case-related information using multiple sources and methods. Provide expert thought leadership in supply chain risks and improvement opportunities with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. Provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor. Provide expert consultative guidance for initiating strategic long-range goals and objectives. Respond to supplier, NGO, governmental and other inquiries.
Qualification and Experience
Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Juris Doctor (or equivalent Law Degree outside the U.S.) and Licensure/ability to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction(s). 6+ years of related work experience. Exceptional communication, advocacy, writing, and drafting skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience leading business and legal teams. Experience in global policy development (e.g., Supplier Code of Conduct and Human Rights Commitment). Experience in managing litigation and regulatory inquiries, including U.S. Customs. Demonstrated record of monitoring and engaging on global legislative issues. Proven commitment to community service and demonstrated experience in sustainability practice areas, including pro bono work. Ability to counsel on green and sustainability marketing claims and methods of substantiation.
