Staff Attorney-Workers' Compensation-Capital Region The candidate will cover hearing points located in the New York Workers’ Compensation Board’s Albany District (Menands, Hudson, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Saranac, and Plattsburgh) with the possibility of covering other areas when necessary, such as Utica, White Plains, and New City. Partners with company’s insureds and claim centers to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation against our insureds. Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies. Conduct hearings, including those with witness testimony and medical depositions. Prepare comprehensive hearing reports, written summations, appellate documents and settlement agreements. Will work without supervision because of level of experience and expertise. Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues. Communicate with the Board, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures. Responsible for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases. Independently prepares and presents witnesses and evidence at administrative hearings. Research, draft, and file appellate applications and briefs on behalf of company. Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of New York. Should be an experienced workers’ compensation attorney with 5+ years law practice, preferably within the insurance defense industry dealing with complex workers' compensation matters. Note: This is a remote/work from home position.
