The role focuses on preparing and prosecuting patent applications, providing strategic patentability and clearance opinions, and managing patent portfolios for a diverse clientele. Duties

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in software, computer science, electrical, or mechanical fields.
  • Draft patentability and clearance opinions.
  • Provide strategic counsel on patent portfolio management, licensing, and enforcement.
  • Manage multiple legal matters simultaneously across various stages of development.
  • Deliver high-quality work and meet billable hour requirements to ensure exceptional client service.
  • Collaborate with and mentor support staff or junior associates to maintain client satisfaction.
  • Build and manage client relationships while identifying business development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a licensed attorney in a law firm environment.
  • Experience in patent prosecution, preferably in software, computer science, electrical, or mechanical disciplines.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Commitment to ethical standards and professionalism.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction where the firm operates.
  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills

  • Strong decision-making abilities and capacity to manage strategic aspects of complex legal matters.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication with both clients and team members.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to delegate effectively.
