ProfileTraining Instructor, GS 11 Duties : Serve as a subject matter expert, instructor/writer, firearms instructor for planning and implementing protective services operations to maintain the military police protective service training course. Analyze training requirements and develop training plans in concert with priorities outlined in guidance, and recommend courses of action which maximizes training impact within resource constraints. Utilize special police operational expertise to present instruction in: protective service personnel, nonstandard weapon techniques and specialized skills required of protective service detail members. Travel to remote areas worldwide, possibly including combat and hostile fire zones, to conduct training. Utilize law enforcement weapons expertise and skill to conduct weapons training in rifle, pistol, shotgun, submachine gun, nonstandard weapons, and non-lethal weapons/munitions employment. Perform maintenance and accountability of training aids, equipment and facilities to include, but not limited to, tactical clearing complexes, ranges, communication systems, lighting systems and weapon systems necessary to conduct training.
Qualification and Experience
Specialized Experience: Must have 1+ year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes serving as an instructor/writer planning and implementing protective service operations to maintain military police protective service training courses; conducting weapons training in rifle, pistol, shotgun, submachine gun, nonstandard weapons and non-lethal weapons/munitions; and identifying problem areas, providing guidance and making appropriate recommendations to ensure ongoing training progress. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3+ years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
