Fall Honors General Attorney (Tax) (2023), GS 11-12 The program is available to primarily recently graduated law students and judicial clerks who have been admitted to a State Bar. Will be placed in the Criminal Tax (CT) Division. Provide legal advice and assistance to criminal investigation in all areas of the Criminal Tax function, including tax, currency, and money laundering crimes and criminal procedure. Also provide legal counsel on investigative matters such as administrative and grand jury investigations, undercover operations, electronic surveillance, search warrants and forfeitures, the referral of cases to the Department of Justice for grand jury investigation, criminal prosecution, and the commencement of forfeitures. Coordinate with other offices within the Agency and the Office of Chief Counsel on all matters involving criminal tax. Must have a J.D. degree with a class ranking in the top 25% OR cumulative GPA of 3.35 or higher OR if the J.D. program does not have class rank or GPA, a minimum LSAT of 160 is required OR a class ranking in the top 25% of the class in the LL.M. program OR a cumulative GPA of 3.25 in the LL.M. program OR if the LL.M. program does not have class rank or GPA, the J.D. program requirements listed above must be met OR if neither J.D. nor LL.M. program has class rank or GPA, a minimum LSAT of 160 is required. Should preferably have special high-level recognition for academic excellence in law school, such as selection to Order of the Coif or receipt of the American Jurisprudence Award in related courses; or top grades in tax or related course work (e.g., "A" grades in tax courses); evidence of background or experience in the position to be filled, such as taking relevant law school classes (e.g., tax law, bankruptcy/debtor creditor law, administrative law) or relevant legal or tax experience (e.g., tax legal experience) or relevant tax volunteer experience (e.g., VITA, Tax Clinic); work or achievement in the law school's law review or other recognized law journal; and winning a moot court or mock trial competition or membership on a moot court or mock trial team.
