Litigation Paralegal Duties: Researches law, investigates facts, and independently prepares documents to assist attorneys with matters. Summarizes complex legal documents. Organizes and indexes case files and privilege logs. Determines and calendars deadlines. Performs a wide variety of legal research, fact investigation, and data compilation. Files pleadings with courts electronically or by personal service. Prepares reports and correspondence. Drafts affidavits or other pleadings i.e. stipulations, notices, subpoenas, etc. and maintains document file. Assists attorneys in preparation for depositions, arbitrations, mediations and trials. Communicates with witnesses and experts as well as legal services vendors. Enters billing and expense data into the Firm system in a timely manner. Travels to courts or client sites as needed. Proofread all documents and cite check/bluebook briefs. Conduct document reviews and prepare/manage document productions.
Qualifications: Paralegal certification/degree from an accredited college or university. 6+ years of paralegal experience, preferably working in a labor/employment litigation practice. In-depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles. Experience in preparing attorneys for trials, arbitrations, and mediations. Proficiency in all Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Lexis-Nexis and WestLaw, Relativity (or other e-discovery platforms), Live Note, Concordance, Case Map, Docketing, Document Management System, expense and billing systems. Must be detail-oriented, and possess superior analytical skills with the ability to mine and collect data for cases.
