A prestigious law firm located in Deerfield, IL, is seeking an experienced Senior Claims Counsel to join their team. This role is designed for a professional with a deep understanding of claims resolution and insurance-related practices, tasked with overseeing complex liability insurance claims. The position emphasizes strategic problem-solving, risk management, and litigation coordination, demanding strong analytical, legal, and communication skills.
Duties
- Investigate and assess general and professional liability insurance claims.
- Develop and execute resolution strategies, including risk transfer, mediation, and litigation management.
- Analyze policy language to recommend coverage determinations and prepare written summaries.
- Set and manage reserves, considering factors like coverage, liability, and damages.
- Oversee litigation, including defense counsel management, budget reviews, and expert coordination.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all claim-related activities and communications.
- Provide excellent client service through professional interactions with insureds, claimants, and business partners.
- Proactively handle claims and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute resolution strategies.
- Communicate significant risks and losses to leadership, projecting exposures and preparing loss summaries.
- Prepare and present status reports and evaluations for management and leadership.
- Stay updated with relevant regulations and ensure compliance.
- Represent the organization in mediation, court proceedings, and other legal matters.
- Some travel may be required.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience managing liability claims.
- Proven expertise in claims resolution, with knowledge of insurance principles and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
Education
- Juris Doctor (JD) Degree.
Certifications
- Active Insurance License in at least one of the following states: Florida, Texas, New York, or California.
