Legal Assistant The candidate will be accountable for providing administrative support to Attorney, Accredited Representative, and/or Paralegal staff such as typing, filing, preparation of routine reports, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and responding to e-mails and information requests. Provides administrative support and assistance to assigned legal staff. Prepares legal filings, and documents (e.g., immigration applications, correspondence, translations, etc.) as directed. Assesses the urgency of situations and determines appropriate actions, monitors status of pending items, and provides updates/feedback to appropriate legal team members. Monitors case activities and maintains the data integrity of case management systems. Accesses, processes, and ensures the confidentiality and control of client information. Assists with referral of clients to pro bono counsel as directed. Conducts and assists with coordination and tracking of other legal services as necessary. Performs other related duties as required. Must have high school diploma or GED. Should preferably have Associateâ€™s or Bachelorâ€™s degree from an accredited college or university. Fluency in English and Spanish in written and spoken forms is required. Intermediate proficiency in both the Microsoft Office Suite of products and with Google tools and performance is needed. Prior work experience with children, particularly from Central America and including Mayan language-speaking populations is desired. Prior non-profit experience, particularly involving field work or work in remote locations is a plus. Previous experience using legal terminology using legal terminology, legal document formatting, and assisting with court filings is helpful.
