Paralegal The candidate performs a variety of paralegal duties in order to assist the firm in the efficient and effective execution of the legal process within various facets of the law including Dependency and Neglect, Delinquency, Collections, Custodian of Records, Adult Protection and Mental Health. Will serve in the preparation of documents including memoranda, correspondence, pleadings, motions, orders, affidavits, notices, default judgments, garnishments, contracts and licenses. Perform docketing functions including docket preparation and processing, trial preparation, deadline dates, court appearances and motion hearing dates. Attendance at court with attorneys, filing of documents at court and obtaining documents from court. Arrange for proper service of process including, preparation of subpoenas and payment of required fees; follow up to confirm subpoena service and preparation and submission of proof of service on all subpoenas and summons. Gathering information, as well as reviewing and analyzing of documentation. Conduct interviews with clients and witnesses by telephone or in person. Coordinate document production and attendance at productions. Assist in trial preparation and/or attorney trial notebooks. Organization of documents and files. Maintenance of databases. Conduct legal research as requested by attorney. General office duties. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a Paralegal degree or certificate from an A.B.A approved school or a Bachelor's Degree in a social science. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations and rules of ethics essential. Knowledge of personal computer word and data processing, use of computer calendars, e-mail systems and of general office equipment needed. Also 3+ years of experience preferred as a paralegal or law clerk in a law office, court environment or governmental law environment. May consider experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant. Also 3 years of additional experience as a paralegal may be substituted for the degree or certificate. Deadline: December 10, 2017.
