Assistant District Attorney The candidate will develop extensive experience writing briefs and appearing for oral arguments in their own cases under the supervision of experienced mentors. Research, write, and argue briefs in intermediate appellate courts and the New York State Court of Appeals addressing important issues of criminal and constitutional law. Answer petitions for writs of habeas corpus filed in federal court, and brief and argue appeals arising from such cases in the . Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Counsel assistants throughout the office on questions of law arising at pretrial stages, trial, sentencing, and post-judgment motions. Review adverse decisions for potential people's appeals; research, brief, and argue such appeals. Litigate specialized civil proceedings, including state habeas and Article 78 petitions. Engage in motion practice related to all stages of the appellate process. Prior prosecutorial or appellate experience is preferred. Excellent writing and research skills are required. An interest in appellate practice is essential.
