Attorney - Tax Counsel The candidate handles routine civil litigation before the Department’s Office of Dispute Resolution, the Montana Tax Appeal Board, state district courts, and appellate courts. These cases often involve complex fact patterns and/or constitutional challenges to state statutes or may involve more routine matters. The incumbent will provide legal advice to clients within the Department; draft rules and legislation on behalf of clients; and may also work on complex litigation under the supervision of senior staff. The position reports to the chief legal counsel and does not supervise other staff.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have through completion of a juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school. Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Montana. Work experience with state tax litigation is preferred. Experience in civil litigation outside of tax litigation may substitute for tax litigation depending on the type and extent of the experience. Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis. It is important that all previous work experience is listed.
