Patent Attorney Responsibilities: Provide Freedom to Operate clearance for new product launches. Identify potential infringement of company patents and participate in development of strategy to meet business goals. Develop filing and prosecution strategies to maximize patent protection for company projects. Ability to critically read and understand scientific literature, lab experimentation, data, results, and scientific methods. Monitor scientific and patent literature for patentability and strategic purposes. Review company publications and presentations prior to public disclosure. Collaborate with the non-IP legal team to provide document review and legal advice on intellectual property issues. Provide advice on the interpretation of contracts relating to IP. Actively participate in regular development project team meetings and advise project team on IP issues.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree. Admitted to a State Bar. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. B.S. or higher or equivalent experience in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or Life Sciences Strong interpersonal and team building skills. Patent experience (preferably related to chemical patent practice). Law firm, Patent Office, or in-house experience is a plus. Strong oral and written communications skills. Ability to proactively identify issues, propose and implement solutions. Ability to effectively and constructively interact with a diverse group at all levels of the organization. Self-initiative and self-direction, ability to work independently. Excellent oral and written communication, problem solving and organization skills required. Ability to contribute as a successful part of a team. Ability to manage and monitor outside counsel.
