Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a Junior Associate to join its Data Privacy and Cybersecurity team. The role requires 2-3 years of experience in privacy law, specifically in privacy incident response, compliance counseling, risk management, and privacy litigation. The ideal candidate will be familiar with state privacy laws, sector-specific regulations, breach reporting, and federal privacy laws such as CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and state biometric and health laws. This position offers a hybrid work schedule with in-office expectations on a weekly basis.

Location:

  • Bloomfield Hills, MI

Duties:

  • Advise clients on privacy incident response, risk management, and compliance counseling.
  • Assist with privacy litigation matters, focusing on federal and state privacy laws.
  • Provide legal guidance on privacy laws, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and state-specific biometric and health regulations.
  • Draft and review privacy policies, data protection assessments, and compliance frameworks.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys, partners, and clients on various data privacy and cybersecurity issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations.

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, or related legal fields.
  • Knowledge of privacy laws, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and state biometric and health laws.
  • Experience with privacy incident response, compliance counseling, and risk management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • CIPP/US certification required (must obtain within one year of hire if not already certified).
  • Admission to the State Bar in the jurisdiction where the candidate will practice.

Skills:

  • Strong research, writing, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations.
