A law firm is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Patent Agent to join their team in Phoenix, AZ. The successful candidate will work with clients on innovative technologies, handle patent applications, and provide support for various patent-related activities. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a solid background in patent prosecution.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with clients to procure patent protection and build intellectual property (IP) portfolios for cutting-edge technologies.
- Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications on behalf of clients.
- Provide support for due diligence, landscape analysis, freedom-to-operate analysis, and validity assessments.
- Draft responses to rejections of patent applications from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other worldwide patent offices.
- Focus on patent filings and support patent litigation efforts.
- Interact professionally with internal and external clients at all levels.
- Collaborate as part of a global professional team.
- Manage and maintain internal practices, procedures, and technology for patent-related information, filings, and deadlines.
- Demonstrate advanced writing skills with the ability to research and communicate ideas clearly and concisely.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with lawyers, firm management, staff, and clients through various forms of correspondence.
- Demonstrate strong project management, organizational, and planning skills, managing multiple tasks and projects while meeting deadlines.
- Work flexibly under pressure with adaptability to changing priorities and work assignments.
- Occasionally work evenings or weekends to accommodate project needs.
- Provide diplomatic responses and pushback when necessary to clarify or obtain more information from authorities.
- Apply creative thinking, good judgment, and decision-making capabilities in all tasks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- 1-2 years of experience in patent prosecution.
- Industry experience or equivalent knowledge in Software Development/Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Semiconductor Manufacturing & Packaging is strongly preferred.
- Registered with the USPTO.
