Labor and Employment Paralegal Duties: Performs a variety of paralegal duties for various attorneys. Interacts with colleagues in a team setting and upholds the image of the Firm by maintaining positive contact with clients, attorneys, paralegals and staff and observing confidentiality of client matters. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, as appropriate for the needs of the audience (clients, internal and external resources). Work well under pressure and remain flexible to changing priorities.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and a strong desire to learn the fundamentals of Labor and Employment. Have professional office experience of 1-3 years, preferably in a law firm Labor and Employment department. Have professional office experience of one to three years, preferably in a law firm Labor & Employment department. Have strong customer service orientation. Strong organizational skills and ability to pay very close attention to detail. Multi-task successfully in a fast-paced work environment, in order to meet competing deadlines. Problem solve, think independently and follow-through on projects with minimal supervision. Must be competent in Word and Excel and have an ability to learn how to use proprietary firm computer programs. Computer skills to include Microsoft suite, scanning, etc. Work independently and as part of a team. Have strong customer service orientation. What I would recommend to anyone who may be reading this that is working for the law firm. Do whatever you can to change the pay scale and salary increase reviews to be one in which merit is considered rather than an employee's popularity.

Pros : Let's start with the good stuff. Everyone worked well as a group. We communicated throughout the firm when we had issues. We shared resources and I truly felt that we all scared about helping each other. We all wanted to see each other shine.
Cons : However, there was a lot of favoritism which led me to leave the firm. Advancements and salary increases weren't due to qualification, experience, or even how well we did in the past year. People were given salary increases greater than others just due to being a favorite of the head management. It was all politics over there. I wasn't as charismatic and personable as others, yet I was able to complete my job with flying colors. But because I wasn't as popular as others - I didn't receive great advancements in my pay.
