Goverment & Industry Relatons Attorney The candidate will : Provides legal support for the Government and Industry Relations group and business clients. Conducts and analyzes legal research; identifies issues, and drafts/forms conclusion. Conducts initial attorney review and assessment, prepares summaries, and reviews/ revises advocacy materials. Drafts and reviews communications and agreements. Manages projects and handles some matters to conclusion. Provides counsel to business clients on day to day issues. Monitors and reviews new laws, regulations, and case law; identifies and summarizes relevant issues; collaborates with other areas of L&R department; proactively provides advice and counsel to business unit on the impact of new laws on business; monitors outside counsel and consultants. Government Affairs and Public Policy: Issue Identification / Position Development; Draft supporting materials for position papers; Prepare position papers; Gather facts from client to understand goals and objectives client intends to achieve from legislation, regulation, or amendments; Identify allies and opponents as related to Issue Advocacy / Lobbying; Develop and refine messages through direct contacts, local counsel, trade associations, coalitions, grass roots, and others; Draft and provide materials, amendments, one pagers, and testimony (written and in person); Prepare summaries of legislative/regulatory developments; Educate/brief/report on status of legislative/regulatory developments to clients, employees, and external consultants; Evaluate and analyze research related to existing laws, regulations, and other legal authority to develop strategy and next steps; Ensure compliance with election laws, lobbying laws, and gift laws. Project Management: Manage projects including development of meeting materials, and coordination with senior management; Interpersonal/Communication; Participate in relevant external industry groups.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should possesses a juris doctorate degree and a license to practice law in California. Should have 2-5 years related experience typical. Computer skills, including MS Office suite, used in or related to the tasks performed. Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Demonstrates ethics and integrity. Budget management skills. Project management skills. Able to interact with all levels of personnel. Utilizes subject matter expertise to coach and guide less experienced team member.
