Attorney - Adviser, Claims, GS 13 Duties: The candidate serves as the principal Claims Attorney for Fort Lee and its associated claims area of responsibility. Responsible for providing legal advice in the area of risk management to Kenner Army Health Clinic and other supported commands. Responsible for all coordination between the Fort Lee Office of the Staff Judge Advocate and the US Army Claims Service, as well as Litigation Division and the US Department of Justice as needed. Serves as the Deputy Chief, Client Services Division, assisting the Chief, Client Services in all aspects of managing the Division and supervising subordinate personnel within the Division. Serves as a Legal Assistance Attorney, providing legal assistance to all eligible clients pursuant to AR 27-3. Represents clients in a full range of legal assistance matters, to include under the Expanded Legal Assistance Program in the courts of Virginia.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have applicant must have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LL.B. or JD degree). Bar Membership: Must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Must have 2+ years of professional legal experience, acquired after being admitted to the bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Graduation from an ABA-Accredited Law School in the top 25% of the class or an advanced law degree such as an LLM may substitute for one year of the required professional legal experience. Must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Must be met before applicants are eligible for further consideration. Knowledge of statutes, regulations, and law related to claims, legal assistance and general administrative law, government ethics, investigations and environmental law, as needed. Ability to analyze, provide advice, and represent the agency and individual clients is essential. Ability to research and formulate legal opinions and decisions regarding claims, client services and, general military administrative and civil law is essential. Ability to serve as subject matter expert in all matters Claims related, and in Client Services is essential.
