Legal Assistant III
Duties: Open litigation files and analyze and input case information; research online resources for case statuses and materials to update docket and case file; provide status updates to attorneys and paralegal specialists. Review, analyze, and log incoming court papers. Use reference tools and databases to perform technical and legal research. Check appendix citations in court briefs to ensure citations are consistent with source material; prepare chart of appendix citations; review final appendix to ensure all citations are included, document discrepancies. Review, reproduce, and bind briefs and other documents; proof read for errors; ensure continuity of form and adherence to Federal court filing rules and procedural guidelines. Prepare attorneys for court hearings and appearances by assembling and organizing briefs, case materials, and exhibits; prepare and distribute case materials for moot courts; organize meetings and conferences; schedule couriers. Analyze notices of suits received from Federal district courts for completeness of information; identify missing information and take action to obtain complete information before processing. Welcome guests by greeting them in person or on the telephone, answering or directing inquiries; safeguard and maintain confidential material which relates to pending and abandoned patent applications and pending court or disciplinary cases; shred confidential materials. Deliver and retrieve court papers, correspondence and other relevant documents within the agency, and to and from various locations in the Metropolitan Area. Assist with maintaining the Solicitor‘s law library reference materials. Performs other legal support and administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 4 years of comparable experience. Knowledge of court rules and filing requirements to evaluate court documents. Knowledge of legal terms, polices, and procedures. Skill in applying basic legal principles and concepts, research methods and data analysis techniques to perform assignments. Knowledge of the functions, priorities, commitments, policies, and priorities of the attorneys and paralegal specialists Ability to orally present and express information to individuals or groups effectively, listen to others and respond appropriately. Ability to use correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling to communicate thoughts, ideas, information, and messages in writing.
