Regulatory Attorney The candidate will handle complex legal issues relating to federal regulation and compliance, including regulations imposed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Federal Communications Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, Securities and Exchange Commission and other federal agencies that regulate public electric and gas utilities. Responsibilities include reviewing, negotiating and drafting various complex commercial agreements subject to regulatory requirements and policy; representing the companies in regulatory litigation and administrative hearings; providing legal advice; research, analysis and writing as to federal regulatory requirements; engaging in compliance counseling, oversight and training; and drafting and preparing regulatory filings. The attorney will function as the direct liaison between the companies and the federal regulatory bodies. The attorney will also address legal matters and concerns arising out of the day-to-day functions of the companies. Report to the Assistant General Counsel of Federal Regulation and Compliance and provide general support to other in-house attorneys on a variety of transactional and litigation projects. Must have Juris Doctorate (Doctor of Law). Licensed to practice law in the State of Arizona or ability to obtain Arizona license required. Should have 2+ years of prior experience in a law firm or corporate setting (or equivalent) practicing in the area of federal regulation or administrative law. Superior academic record and excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical and organizational skills required. Legal research and writing experience required. Some familiarity with utility regulatory issues preferred.
