Litigation; Labor; and Employment Manager/Attorney The candidate will require day-to-day management of a caseload involving interesting and varied legal issues and entails substantial internal counseling intended to mitigate litigation risk. Will be responsible for the development and execution of strategy and case management plans and for executing upon those plans, as well as developing and training junior lawyers and paralegals. The substance of cases will vary from torts to business disputes, including government contracting, commercial contracting, and intellectual property. Familiarity with allowability determinations and class actions is desirable. The candidate must be willing and able to go to court, take and defend depositions, and write persuasive motions, responses and briefs. Travel for case-related events, sometimes on short notice, is required. This role will also serve as the primary Space resource for all labor and employment matters. This encompasses all employment issues affecting Lockheed Martin Space, including providing legal advice to Human Resources; assisting with the development of appropriate policies and procedures; and counseling regarding an array of labor and employment law matters, including accommodations, discipline, compensation, and fair labor and equal employment requirements. This role will prepare responses to EEOC and state employment agency discrimination charges and other types of employment-related claims. Also provide advice regarding the False Claims Act, various federal and state whistleblower laws, OFCCP, WARN, OSHA, ERISA, and non-compete and trade secrete matters. Familiarity with collective bargaining, union grievances and related issues is desirable. The role also represents the Legal Department on internal review boards and is responsible for monitoring state and federal employment legislation and governmental agency enforcement priorities and providing related advice.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have J.D. degree from an accredited law school. Must be member in good standing of a state Bar. Should have 10+ years of complex litigation experience with meaningful exposure to both tort and business cases. Will have extensive motion and discovery drafting experience and a demonstrated record of strategic case strategy and efficient dispute resolution, including recognizing and promoting settlement opportunities. Trial and mediation experience are helpful. Will have a meaningful and diverse background in some or all of the following: commercial defense experience at a top-tier law firm or boutique; U.S. government customer experience; in-house experience within the aerospace or other highly regulated industry. Strong organizational, analytical, writing and verbal skills and high emotional intelligence are key. Strong business acumen and strategic decision-making skills ap. Experience in the aerospace or security industry is desired. Experience with dispute resolution and litigation is preferred. Should preferably have experience with a U.S. government customer.
