Assistant General Counsel The candidate: Performs advanced (senior-level) legal transactional work to support the agencyâ€™s business and regulatory activities. Work involves interpreting laws and regulations; providing oral and written legal advice to division directors and agency staff regarding regulatory policy and business initiative implications; coordinating legal activities; overseeing the preparation of legal documents; and may include representing the agency in some enforcement matters before the State Office of Administrative Hearings. May coordinate the work of others. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position reports to the Managing Attorney, but may work under the direction of the General Counsel. Should have graduation from an accredited law school with a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) or a J.D. degree is required. Currently licensed to practice law in the State of Texas in good standing is required. Must have 4+ years of experience as an attorney working for or representing governmental agencies is required; may substitute comparable private practice experience representing public or private entities in Texas administrative and/or corporate law matters on a year-for-year basis. Should have experience in analyzing and solving legal problems; interpreting laws and regulations affecting a governmental agency; dealing effectively and tactfully with others; and addressing an audience effectively is required. Experience in legal research, writing, and analysis and preparing sound opinions is required. Experience with personal computers, including word processing, legislative, and legal research programs is required. Knowledge of contract and government procurement law is preferred. Experience in the lottery or gaming industry is preferred. Closing Date: 06/25/2018.
