Assistant Attorney General-DLA Duties : Provides legal representation to the State of Florida, by and through the Department of Children and Families and its contracted community based care providers (DCF) in dependency, termination of parental rights, adoption, foster care and related legal matters acts in the best interest of the subject child(ren), under the direction of the Childrensâ€™ Legal Services (CLS) supervising Senior Attorney. All such legal representation is provided in the best interest of the child(ren) who is/are the subject of the proceedings. Interprets statutes and regulations, provides legal advice and information to DCF counselors, protective investigators, program supervisors and administrators. Conducts hearings, trials and appeals in state courts, and participates in staffing, mediation and other forms of informal dispute resolution. Conducts highly technical, varied and complex legal research. Prepares all legal documents and reviews and signs all legally required social services documents filed with the court in dependency and termination of parental rights proceedings, including, but not limited to petitions, pleadings, motions, discovery requests, performance agreements, permanent placement plans, affidavits, predisposition reports, judicial reviews, social study reports, certificates of service, and notices. On behalf of DCF, attends criminal and family court proceedings ancillary to pending dependency and termination of parental rights cases. Performs other related work in association with or as directed by the CLS supervising attorney. Acts as liaison with courts, state attorneys, public defenders, guardians ad litem, psychologists, foster care programs, shelters, other social services programs and other groups in the legal community
Qualification and Experience
Qualification : The candidate should have Admission to the Florida Bar and 3+ years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings. Must have Membership in good standing in another state Bar can substitute for the required admission to the Florida Bar provided membership in the Florida Bar is attained within 12 months of appointment to a position in this class. This position requires as a prerequisite to employment a degree of Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and membership in the Florida Bar. Criminal court experience and appellate experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated interest in children's legal issues required.
