Vice President of Legal The candidate will assist the investigations department by conducting necessary legal research into state-specific laws and regulations and address any legal issues arising during the course of investigations. Will oversee the organization’s requests for criminal prosecutions of animal abusers by reviewing investigative footage, drafting legal petitions, and meeting with and assisting law enforcement. Work to advance farmed animal interests in state and federal legislation. Research, develop, and implement proactive legal initiatives including lawsuits, petitions, and complaints to state & federal agencies. Review and draft contracts, leases, agreements, and other legal documents. Maintain compliance with all corporate governance requirements and human resources and employment regulations, including but not limited to secretary of state and attorney general annual filings, sales tax remittance, unemployment fund contributions, IRS filings, board of director protocols, labor laws, and insurance matters, with the Vice President of Administration. Ensure the legal compliance of the various campaigns and undertakings of the different departments and competently handle any other legal issues that may arise during the day-to-day operations of the organization. Serve as a spokesperson for the organization by drafting press releases and media statements, conducting press conferences, and participating in media interviews regarding any of the organization’s undertakings. Develop and maintain close working relationships with private pro bono counsel and attorneys in other animal protection organizations. Oversee the organization’s legal internship program, and supervise and manage all members of the legal advocacy department. Communicate and meet with members and supporters of the organization as appropriate. Follow all human resource and operational procedures and ensure that the legal advocacy department is in full compliance. Supervise and manage all members of the legal department. Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor. Must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Should have 10+ years of previous experience practicing law. Thorough knowledge of animal rights legal issues and firm campaigns is required. Should have proven exceptional organizational and writing skills
